West Valley showed off its skills this weekend at the 53rd Anderson Invitational Tournament.
The Eagles started the tournament Thursday with a game against Churchill County, Nev.
It didn’t take long for West Valley to set the tone and cruise to an easy 65-29 victory.
Then Friday night the Eagles met up with Oroville and once again set the pace, forcing the Tigers to play catch up.
West Valley led 21-11 at the half, then continued where they left off to finish with a 47-40 victory. This put the Eagles in Saturday’s championship game against Central Valley.
The Falcons dominated the first half of the game, leading the Eagles 29-20 going into the half.
West Valley tried to stage a come back in the third quarter, but they couldn’t shut down the Falcons on offense.
The Eagles lost 53-41 to the Falcons.
Colfax 52, Anderson 51
The Cubs started out with a 51-45 loss to Oroville in their home tournament, putting them on the losers side of the bracket.
Anderson shrugged off Thursday’s loss by schooling Churchill County in hoops Friday evening.
The Cubs sailed to an easy victory against the Greenwaves, winning the contest 71-47. Anderson then met Colfax in the consolation game Saturday afternoon.
The two teams were evenly matched, but Anderson took an early lead.
The Cubs had a four point lead going into the fourth quarter, but then Colfax started turning up the heat and Anderson had difficulty hitting its shots.
This gave Colfax the opening it needed to take the lead and the win.
