Within hours of sentencing, former Anderson Police Officer (APD) Bryan Benson was “shipped out” to another, undisclosed county jail in Northern California “for safety reasons,” said Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko.
“He was moved primarily for his own safety,” Bosenko said, explaining that, “theoretically, persons that he might have dealt with as a police officer could be housed in our jail.”
Bosenko said the option of parole with home electronic monitoring “was never an option for me because of the crimes that he committed and for which he was sentenced.”
When asked whether part of the reason for moving Benson was for protection from jail personnel who might have considered Benson’s crime as detrimental to the images of law enforcement officers, Bosenko quickly defended his personnel, calling them “highly professional.”
Benson allegedly assaulted a Millville woman in his custody on May 29, 2010. He took a plea deal back in September. As a part of that deal, Benson was promised no more than one year in jail. He began serving that year immediately.
