Calif. Democrats seek ban on urban handguns

Under current California law, if you live within 1,000 feet of a K-12 public or private school you can legally transport a handgun so long as it is unloaded and in a locked container.

Under a bill introduced by State Senator Ted Lieu (D-28 Redondo Beach) the law will change. It will expand the so-called “gun free” zones to 1,500 feet and a handgun can only be transported, unloaded and in a locked container, within your motor vehicle.

Take it one step outside your automobile on a public street, even if you are just carrying it to a firing range or purchasing a handgun from a sporting goods store, and you are guilty of a misdemeanor or potentially a felony with a seven year prison term.

For the millions of Californians who live in residential areas without parking spaces on private property, this law will make it impossible to take your handgun out of your home or bring a newly purchased handgun into your home.

For those who may be unfamiliar with Senator Ted Lieu, the Democrats recently passed two of his bills. One bans the sale of shark-fin soup, the other makes it a crime for persons under 18 years of age to use a tanning booth.

Senator Lieu is currently boycotting Lowe’s Home Improvement stores and “may consider legislative action” because the company pulled an advertisement from an anti-American, pro-Muslim cable TV show.

In short, Ted Lieu is your typical left-wing, lunatic Democrat politician from California which has made this state the laughing stock of the nation.

Ironically, it would take just over 11,000 signatures on a recall petition to give the voters an opportunity to remove Senator Lieu from office.

His bill, SB661, has a hearing before the Senate Public Safety Committee on January 10th at 9:30am in room 3191 at the state capitol in Sacramento.

The Senate Public Safety Committee is stacked with similarly minded Democrats.

So is there a petition started? Where do I sign? People kill people by any way they can. There has probably been more deaths caused by people wielding knifes or operating vehicles than were killed by guns lately. Criminals don't follow laws and therefore the law only looks to take away a law abiding citizens ability to defend themselves from those criminals. Or otherwise as this story tells, putting another notch in the overall banning of a citizens right to have one, or right to have one readily available and loaded for an immediate time of need, and while not making one illegal to have but making it impossible to lawfully carry from store to vehicle or from vehicle to house, let alone to be carried on person as it should be. And in turning otherwise law abiding citizens into criminals by not making it illegal to have a gun but by making it impossible to lawfully move or load one despite it being personal property and ones possibly only line of defense. Common sense should tell you this law only looks to aid criminals (who don't care what the laws are) in their safety when robbing people and their homes or in holding school children hostage when otherwise a law abiding citizen could have stopped or prevented such tragedies from happening for under just a dollar instead of the thousands or hundred thousands that it cost for a less effective police force to do its job. Senator Lieu (sounds communist) and his buddies are obviously criminals themselves or just down right un-american idiots! (Or maybe he/they work for a corrupt group of people that for decades now has been trying to disarm the people so that they face no real threat of opposition in their game of power, conquer, and control. So that we have no chance to stand up against a system that has been overtaken by those who greedily seek such things.) Either way he/they obviously need to be dismissed from their seats and probably even be charged with treason for campaigning against the ideas, beliefs, rights, and freedoms that make/made America. If the occupiers of wall street (as dumb as they may be in shutting down whats left of there own towns industry) exercised their right to carry firearms, I highly doubt that the police forces (as dumb as they are in suppressing even their own freedoms) would have shelled their own people (who have every right to take to the streets in protest against powers that be) with tear gas, rubber bullets, or tazers knowing that the crowd might fire back with something a bit more lethal. I hear it is quite difficult to control people who are smart in being able to think for themselves or armed with the ability to fight back. Lets keep it that way! RON PAUL 2012!!!

Current law allows only criminals who don't care what the laws are to have guns in and within 1000ft of schools leaving no good or law abiding citizen the capability to protect themselves or the people around them. Including school children grades K-12. A law to protect criminals and give them more time to do as they please until the police are called, dispatched, and arrive at the crime scene. That's genius!! A law that protects criminals!!!

Laws do not effect criminals, stop hurting law abiding citizens.

Just one more step in making American citizens more dependent upon govt. Outlawing personal protection makes it easy for the police to know who the criminals are. If you carry a weapon, you are a criminal. So much simpler.
