Former Anderson Fire Chief Joe Piccinini has reportedly resigned a similar position with the Central Fire Rescue and Protection District in Calaveras County, two news organizations there independently announced this week.
ThePineTree.net, a Web-based community news site, posted an item at 10:53 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2, stating, in part: "We have just had word the Central Fire Chief, Joe Piccinini, resigned last evening and is taking another position in Sacramento and is moving out of the area. We have confirmed with Bill Schmiett, Board President, that this in fact true."
A call by the Valley Post to the fire district offices went unanswered except for a telephone answering message instructing the caller to leave a recorded message or dial 9-1-1 in case of an emergency."
The Calaveras Enterprise newspaper, on its Web site, had a similar item posted Friday, Feb. 4, as Breaking News.
"Central Fire Rescue and Protection District Chief Joe Piccinini resigned Monday (Feb. 1) after allegations of serious misconduct in his former job as a fire chief in (Anderson,) Shasta County resurfaced in the aftermath of a controversial Shasta County grand jury report issued June 28, (2010)," the Web site story stated.
An anonymous caller from Calaveras County tipped the Valley Post to the story.
