Boomers begat busted budgets

News reports lately have wondered aloud about the plight of baby boomers. i.e the tremendous number of babies born after the soldiers came home from World War II.

It was fine at the time. The country went into a period of tremendous growth in the economy. There was a lot of manufacturing with jobs for everyone. People rode on the crest of prosperity. They bought everything in sight. And they produced children almost as fast as they produced consumer goods.

A few wise people looked at all this production and wondered what would happen when this burgeoning population reached age 65, retired and started to depend on their Social Security for economic survival.

That time has arrived, and where are the billions and billions of dollars collected from workers over the years?

We heard that it went into a lockbox to be kept safe for the people. Then we heard that lock-box developed a leak and was loaned to Uncle Sam when he misspent — overspent — and blew the country’s budget. And that lockbox is nearing empty.

The economy of our United States is actually bankrupt although it has not been publicly acknowledged. There is no way we can raise the multiple trillions of dollars we owe China and other countries from whom we have borrowed those trillions.

As a matter of fact, our government has become so corrupt and non-thinking they seem totally unable and don’t care that the spending of our own government city, county, state and nation do not balance.

The officials are too caught up in earmarks or in feathering their own nests so they will be re-elected to stay on the gravy train.

This is not the government “With freedom and justice for all” for which our forefathers sacrificed their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor.
