Re-Enactment - Northern California Veterans Museum Director Rob Burroughs, dressed in World War II battle fatigues and standing atop a parade float with arms outstretched towards the flagpole, helps re-enact the raising of the American flag over Iwo Jima on Feb. 23, 1945, during a World War II battle in the Pacific. The museum, located between Anderson and Redding, honors all veterans from the Civil War to Afghanistan.
Veterans from all services and conflicts were celebrated and remembered Saturday morning, Nov. 5, with a 94-entry parade along Shasta Dam Boulevard in the City of Shasta Lake.
Honored as one of three parade Grand Marshals was Cottonwood resident Bob Dunlap, Shasta County’s Veterans Service Officer since January 2010. Dunlap spent 26 years in the U.S. Air Force, saw combat overseas in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm and retired with the rank of Chief Master Sgt. Dunlap and his wife, Pam, rode along the parade route in a 1962 Chevrolet convertible owned and driven by Jerry and Lee Beaumont.
Annual observance of Veterans Day in the South County will take place at 10:55 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11, at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo.
Master of Ceremonies will be David Kehoe, Shasta County Supervisor from District 1.
The program will include warrior-hero speakers of the Korean combat. Patriotic and marching music will be provided by the Enterprise High School Band under the direction of Dan Neese.

Anderson Heights Elementary School will also present its annual patriotic program to honor local veterans at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10.

Most public schools will be closed Friday, Nov. 11.
Anderson City Hall and most city, state and federal offices including Shasta County Superior Court will be closed Friday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day.
Many banks will also be closed.
The Anderson Valley Post will be open dduring regular business hours from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Most retail businesses will also remain open.
Waste Management will maintain its normal trash pickup service schedule.
