For the fifth time since The Sikh Centre opened in Anderson in April 2007, adherents will gather Nov. 19-20 to celebrate the birth of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, founder of the faith, with various ceremonies, community meals and a Thanksgiving parade of Unity and One-ness, stated Amarjit Singh Grewal, spokesman for the religious community.

Events begin Saturday, Nov. 19, with a 10 a.m. prayer for world peace at the Interfaith Garden on the center’s grounds, located at 5400 Sikh Centre Drive off Corner Way in Anderson.

A ritual cleansing of the cloth-draped flagpole and rewrapping it with a bright yellow robe will begin at 10:15 a.m.

On Sunday, Nov. 20, a welcome session begins with tea and snacks at 9:30 a.m. inside The Sikh Centre, Singh Grewal said.

From there, a third annual Thanksgiving procession through the streets of Anderson will begin staging at 11:30 a.m. on Freeman St., between South and North streets.

The 2 p.m. parade route will head north on Freeman St. to North St., turn east to McMurray Drive, head south on McMurray Drive to Balls Ferry Road, then turn west back to Freeman St. where parade participants will disburse back to The Sikh Centre.
