Winning Team - AYSL U-10 girls team, the Serpents, will move on to play in the Founders Cup in Sacramento in December.

A near perfect and undefeated season was capped off with a championship win by the Anderson Youth Soccer League Serpents, a U-10 girls team competing Nov. 5 and 6 in the North State regional playoffs held at Redding Soccer Park.

The Serpents, coached by Ron Doane and assistant Jason Dunphy, ended their team’s regular season with eight wins and one tie to take on and defeat three competitors to qualify for the Division IX championship.

The championship game matched the No. 1 seeded Serpents against No. 2 qualifier Pink Lightening of Redding.

In an exciting game that came down to the last moments, the Serpents were able to come from behind and defeat Pink Lightening by one point.

This two day event brought together 21 of the best U-10 girl’s teams in the North State from Shasta, Tehama and Lassen counties.

The final championship game highlighted the offensive skills and aggressive plays of team player Lexie Regelin, the team’s leading scorer, as well as the consistent play of Megan Patton, Juliana Bowman and Kalie Doane.

Adding an impressive defensive performance that shut out most of their opponents was Relyn Stirton. Stirton, who in addition to keeping the ball away from the goal zone, actually provided a goal of her own from mid-field.

With this victory the Serpents will be eligible to represent Division IX in the Founders Cup, the North State championship taking place in Sacramento on Dec. 9, .10, 16 and 17.

Due to the expense of traveling, rooms and additional equipment that will need to be purchased for the two-weekend event, the team and their families are seeking help from the community.
