Sports Briefs: Foothill hosts 6-week baseball skills camp

Foothill High School is hosting a six week baseball camp starting January 22. Some of the area’s best coaches will direct the program in conjunction with U.S. Baseball Academy.

Classes are available for players in grades 1-12 and are limited to six players per coach. Sessions are offered in advanced hitting, pitching, catching, fielding and baserunning at a cost as low as $99 for six weeks.

North Valley Rapid tryouts

North Valley Rapids ASA girls’ softball club will be holding tryouts for the 2012 Summer U12, U14 and U16 travel team at Big League Dreams on Sunday, Dec. 4.

The U14 tryout is 10 a.m.; U16 tryout is noon; and U12 tryout is 12:30 p.m.

Anderson grad earns WVIAC honorable mention

Anderson High graduate Zach Gibbins earned special honorable mention on the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-League list.

Gibbins recently helped Concord University football team win the West Virginia Conference championship by beating West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Gibbins intercepted the ball in the end zone as time expired to give his team a 48-40 win.

Anderson soccer wins championships

The Anderson Youth Soccer League (AYSL) was a dominating force at the District IX championships.

AYSL managed to nabbed four out of five championships – U10 girls Serpents, U12 girls Challengers, U12 boys Gunners and U14 boys Ambush.

According to President Don Coon, this has never been done before on the recreational side.
