North Valley grad Thompson ends training

Army National Guard Pvt. Steven D. Thompson has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

During nine weeks of training, the soldier studied physical fitness, marching and field training exercises; was tested on the Army’s mission, history, tradition and core values; received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training; learned drill and ceremony, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system and basic first aid.

A 2007 graduate of North Valley High School in Anderson, Thompson is the brother of Tiffiny Suter of Anderson.

North Valley grad Cox finishes basic training

Army Pvt. Shane Cox has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

Cox is the son of Brad Barnes of Calneva Drive, Crystal Bay, Nev., and Rachael Schell of Kaneohe, Hawaii.

He is a 2010 graduate of North Valley High School, Anderson, Calif.
