After 33 years of serving the Anderson community, Anderson Police Chief Dale Webb has retired.
“Dale Webb has been a long-term employee who’s given a lot of his time and life to the city of Anderson and we wish him well,” said Assistant City Manager Jeff Kiser.
Webb announced his decision on Dec. 31, 2011, according to a press release received this afternoon. A graduate of Anderson High School, Webb retires as the longest serving officer in the history of the Anderson Police Department.
Contacted via cell phone late Thursday, Webb provided the following comments on his announced retirement.
"I appreciate all of the support I've had from the community through the years and I especially appreciate the support of my family putting up with the stresses of the job. I am going to enjoy (my) retirement," Webb said.
Webb began his career as a reserve officer in 1978. He became a full-time officer in 1979 and was named Anderson’s Police Chief April, 28, 2006, following the retirement of Neil Purcell, Jr.
“We will begin recruiting almost immediately,” said Kiser, who indicated they have nobody in mind for Webb’s position.
Webb has been out on medical leave since April of 2011. Shawn Watts, a former chief of Northern Division operations with the California Highway Patrol, has been acting as the city’s interim police chief.

Dale was a great member of Anderson PD and a good chief who was terrorized by the APO and its idiot members, as well as councilman Day. I hope he goes thru with his lawsuit. Our short-term "city manager" Dana was certainly not a supporter. We are glad she is history.

This was a very nice comment until the members of APOA were called names.More education on the facts would have helped. You can honer Chief Webb's service without grouping all his fellow officers into a lynch mop.

The City needs new blood, new leaders. Talk about going back in time with the turn over at council. Good luck Mr. Webb enjoy your retirement. And don't let them get away with anything.
