Anderson grapplers handle Central Valley in dual 68-6

The Anderson High School wrestling team defeated Central Valley 68-6 in a dual meet Wednesday.

The Cubs won each match except the heavyweight contest.

In the 113-pound weight class, Cody Dean won by forfeit. Hayden Gilbert (120) pinned Beth Moore. Aaron Evett (126) pinned Dakota Jones. Patrick Penick (132) pinned Randy Moore. Jose Raya (138) pinned Gabe Richey. Tristen Smith (145) won in a 7-4 decision over Gunner Young. Spencer Larsen (152) won 15-0 on a technical fall over Dalton Frogette. Chris Webb (160) won by a pin over Morgan Fergunson. Levi Hewitt (170) pinned Pat Wilson. Bryan Cabral (182) pinned Noah McKenzie.

Gage White (195) pinned Brandon Castle. Evan Cambell (220) pinned Ernesto Alvarez.

In the heavyweight division, Central Valley’s Robert Yost won by pinning Wyatt Webb.

Boys basketball

West Valley 52, Sutter 32

The Eagles’ leading scorers were Danny Vietti with 13 points, Casey Duenas with 12 points, which included four 3s, and Colton Strickland with 11 points.

West Valley 7-8) opens league play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against Corning.

Anderson 81, Wheatland 46

The Cubs had three players in double figures: Garrett Greenhaw with 23 points, Jason Cruickshank with 16 and Anthony Mogni with 10.

Anderson (7-11) opens league play with a home game Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against Central Valley.

Prep boys soccer

Central Valley 6, Anderson 2

In a losing cause, the Cubs’ Joseph Santone and Austin Carrell each scored a goal.

Prep girls soccer

Anderson 5, Central Valley 0

The Cubs’ Taylor Graham scored three goals in the first 20 minutes while Roxanne Navarette and Miranda Edward each scored one goal.

Edward had two assists while Allison Lafayette had one assist. Cub’s goalkeepers Natasha Salinas had one save while Nina Tucker had three saves.
