The Cottonwood Fire Protection District is pleased to announce the appointment of a new fire captain to the Cottonwood Fire Department.

The new fire captain is Darren Duvall. He joined the department in December 2011 after a successful interview process, with applicants attending from as far away as the San Francisco Bay area. Prior to his appointment, Darren was also a member of the Volunteer Firefighter’s of Cottonwood as an EMT/Firefighter supporting the Cottonwood Fire Protection District.

He also instructs classes for volunteer firefighters whereby they can obtain their certification as Emergency Medical Responders, as well as keeping their CPR and first aid certifications up to date.

Darren has had firefighting in his blood for many years, having been a firefighter and paramedic with the Indio Fire Department in Southern California, prior to moving to Cottonwood.

Darren will be the Fire Prevention officer as well as working shifts as one of the duty officers. He will be working on programs to make the public and businesses in the Cottonwood community more aware of fire prevention.

Darren’s hobbies include fishing, hiking. He is also a big fan of ice hockey.
