As predicted last year, the Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force (SINTF) will no longer partner with the Department of Justice/Bureau of Narcotics. In a Jan. 10 press release, SINTF confirmed that due to state budget cuts, the Department of Justice/Bureau of Narcotics is no longer involved with SINTF’s operations.
“SINTF will still continue to operate with a multi-agency advisory committee,” said Lt. Tom Campbell of the Shasta County Sheriff’s office.
Back in June of 2011, Anderson interim Police Chief Shawn Watts feared SINTF might be disbanded all together, however, county law enforcement agencies have worked hard to keep the narcotic task force operational.
Campbell will be handling the day-today operations of SINTF along with Sgt. Les James from the Redding Police Department.
According to the same press release, SINTF agents arrested 177 subjects, took 24 children into protective custody in 2011.
They also seized 44 illegal firearms, confiscated over 9 pounds of methamphetamine, approximately 440 pounds of marijuana, and orchestrated significant seizures of cocaine, opium and large amounts of illegally possessed prescription medications.
