Pacheco School Principal Jason Provence was picked to be the perspective superintendent, said Pacheco Board Trustee Chris Carmona.

According to Carmona, the district’s contract with the Shasta County Office of Education ends on June 1, at that time Doreen Fuller, who was appointed by SCOE, will no longer be the superintendent of Pacheco.

Provence is being mentored by Fuller and did not receive a pay increase when the board decided on the provisional appointment at the December board meeting, stated Carmona.

With the retirement of Prairie School Principal Deidra Hoffman at the end of the school year, the Pacheco trustees are looking at administration configuration and the possibility of having a superintendent/principal.

“It will not increase administration costs however it works out,” said Carmona. Meaning if Provence is chosen to step in as the superintendent/principal he will not see a pay increase. Carmona added that Provence has the support of the board, parents and teachers, and that no one has opposed Provence being the provisional superintendent.

According to Provence, he and the board are negotiating a contract and said he expects the board to take action at the February board meeting. Provence explained that he and the board are moving slowly to make sure things are done correctly.

He is in his second year as principal of Pacheco, a school he once attended. Before coming to Pacheco in 2010, Provence was the vice principal of Anderson Middle School.
