A failed traffic stop ended with the arrest of 27-year-old David Weston Allen Jones, Jr. of Bruney, Calif. on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012.
Jones was already on probation for vehicle theft when an Anderson Police Department (APD) officer attempted to stop his black Pontiac Grand Prix at the intersection of Douglas Street and Howard Street. The vehicle failed to stop and reached speeds of up to 60 mph while evading the officer.
“The vehicle continued westbound on Ferry Street towards Anderson High School,” said Captain Robert Kirvin in a recent Press Release. “As the vehicle approached the entry to the High School, the driver failed to negotiate a turn, lost control and landed in the A.C.I.D. canal on its roof.”
An officer observed Jones crawling out the driver’s side window, the suspect eventually taking off at a run.
“With the assistance of the K-9 Nikita, a track was started.”
Jones took off on foot toward Anderson Middle School, states a SHASCOM Incident Report. A resident later spotted him at the Fair Oaks apartment complex, although Jones eventually ended up in front of a house across from the street from the middle school.
According to the Press Release, Jones sustained only minor injuries from the collision and was booked into the Shasta County Jail for a probation violation. According to Captain Kirvin, he will also be charged with driving under the influence and felony evasion.
