The City of Anderson’s Park and Recreation department has many classes over the summer to help parents and their children stay active.
At the Anderson High pool, there will be swimming lessons, water aerobics and lap swimming. There are also some changes.
Parks and Recreation has changed the names of their swim classes – tad poles, otters, sardines, angel fish and barracudas. According to Pam Lewis, Parks and Recreation supervisor, the city’s recreation program takes pride in offering great instructors at an affordable cost to those wanting to learn to swim or just improve their strokes.
The long standing Summer of Fun begins Monday, June 18, at Anderson River Park with a free drop-in camp from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., for ages 5-12.
Lewis said there will be lots of fun, games and crafts.
The program will be available in Happy Valley at the Community Center from 1 to 4 p.m. and at Volonte Park on Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m.
Free lunches will be available to all youth in our communities 18 and under at 11:30 a.m. at Anderson River Park, 12 p.m. at the Manter House and 1 p.m. at the Happy Valley Community Center.
The city will also offer an all day camp beginning on Monday, June 18, for $80 a week. For more information about the camp, please call 378-6656.
There will also be other camps provided over the course of the summer, including basketball, football, cheer and dance.
“Due to the generosity of local businesses we will be able to offer scholarships to qualifying families,” said Lewis.
