Haggard comes home to perform at Cascade Theatre

Hometown fans of Country legend Merle Haggard have a rare chance to catch a performance of his with The Strangers when they hit the historic Cascade Theatre stage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10.

For more than four decades, Merle Haggard’s rich vocal textures and charismatic individuality has brought a dimension of lyrical depth and musical sophistication to Country music.

Haggard’s deep voice and dazzling guitar work gives his music a distinctive blues-like quality. His deep love for the roots and development of numerous musical forms has made him one of the most influential performing artists in history.

Even Rolling Stone magazine has declared Haggard “the greatest country artist of our times.”

During his long and illustrious career, Haggard has received an astounding number of music awards, has 40 number-one hit singles to his credit and has recorded scores of Top 10 songs. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and is the recipient of several Grammy Awards including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.

Haggard’s music has remained some of the most inventive in Country music and his status is affirmed each time a new generation of Country singers pays tribute to his work.
