An Anderson man injured himself and his passenger when he crashed into a tree while driving intoxicated Friday night, the California Highway Patrol said.
Around 11:50 p.m. Robert Jerome Shimko II, 42, was driving his white 2004 Chevrolet Silverado east on Balls Ferry Road when he lost control going about 45 mph, a press release said.
The truck left the roadway and crashed into a tree and a fence, officers said.
Shimko’s pickup sustained major front end damage.
Shimko suffered from minor injuries including a laceration to his right hand and right knee, according to police, while his passenger, Frank Magana Mendoza, 30, of Cottonwood had moderate injuries to his neck, back, chest and right ankle. He also had cuts on his knees.
Both men were wearing seatbelts, the press release said.
Shimko was placed under arrest on suspicion of felony DUI, officers said.
The crash remains under investigation.
