Christmas is fast approaching and Santa Claus is planning to make several advance appearances in South Shasta County before Christmas Eve duties require his full attention.

The legendary white-bearded man with his distinctive red coat and trousers trimmed in white fur will arrive in Anderson aboard a fire engine at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, just in time to help light the 70-foot community Christmas tree set up in the Anderson Square shopping center parking lot by volunteer firefighters for the Anderson Fire Protection District.

Children of all ages are invited to dress warmly and prepare a list of their fondest wishes to present to Santa Claus, who will distribute candy and a toy to each girl and boy until the supply runs out, said Fire Chief Andy Nichols.

The following day, Saturday, Nov. 30, Santa Claus will be at the Shasta Outlets shopping center in Anderson for the second “Stuff the Stagecoach.”

The toy drive will be benefiting more than 800 needy South County children through Toys From the Heart’s giving campaign.

All those who are able to spread a bit of Christmas cheer to the less fortunate are encouraged to drop off new, unwrapped toys or cash donations from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., said Linda Austin, manager of the shopping center.

The first 50 donors of two or more toys during this year’s event will receive a gift bag of goodies donated by various merchants in the Shasta Outlets center, Austin said.

Photos are welcome at both events, so parents and grandparents should plan on bringing a camera to record the event for posterity, she added.

Santa Claus is next expected to appear during the Anderson Parks and Recreation Department’s annual Holiday Carnival set for 6 p.m. Dec. 6 in the Community Room at City Hall.

The event features games, snacks and performances by area youth groups for some of South Shasta County’s youngest children through grade school, explained Pam Lewis.

The following day, Dec. 7, Santa and Mrs. Claus will make an appearance in Cottonwood for the community Christmas tree lighting ceremony. They will be available for Christmas wishes and photos from 4:15 p.m.-6:15 p.m. at Front and Main Streets.

Santa, also known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas and Kris Kringle, will also take Christmas wish list requests and pose for photographs from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 13-14, Dec. 20-21 and Dec. 23 at Ferry’s Pharmacy and Gifts, 2940 East St., Anderson.

Finally, Santa will make an appearance at Cottonwood Community Library for preschooler StoryTime at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, as well as at Anderson Public Library’s after-school StoryTime at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19.
