Two former Anderson mayors set to challenge Les Baugh for county board seat

Friday, March 7, is filing deadline for candidates wishing to appear on June 3 ballot

Former Anderson mayors William "Butch" Schaefer, a retired Shasta County Deputy Marshal now serving as a NASCAR official, and Rodney Jones, an advocate for medical marijuana, have each announced their separate intentions to run in June for a seat on the Shasta County Board of Supervisors held for the past eight years by Les Baugh, a pastor and also former Anderson mayor.

Baugh announced earlier this month his intention to seek reelection to a third four-year term on the county board.

Each of the three Anderson residents hopes to represent citizens living in the county’s District 5 in southeastern Shasta County including Anderson, Cottonwood, Manton, Millville and Shingletown.

The filing deadline for all candidates hoping to appear on the June 3 ballot is 5 p.m. March 7, said County Clerk Cathy Darling Allen.
