Calendar turns thoughts backward
Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008
As the calendar nears Dec. 7, my thoughts always turn backward to that date in 1941.The shock of what happened on that date changed life for the United States and the people. Before that date, Americans watched the wars raging in Europe and the Orient, glad that we had both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans between us and those conflicts.

Call me old-fashioned, but I really prefer to enjoy my holidays one at a time. That is why I usually avoid stores that start playing Christmas music before Thanksgiving.

Are you facing crisis after crisis?
Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008
Do you feel this is how you spent your day?Do you feel as if you are on this frantic circular track running as fast as you can until you are so far behind you think you are ahead again? I somehow got sucked back on this nightmarish not so merry-go-round recently which triggered the resurrection of an excellent management tool from the depths of my cobwebbed mind. Can I really eat too much turkey?
Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008
Too much turkey means lying around the house moaning and groaning after the big meal of the holiday. I have news for you. Turkey isn't the only meat that has an ingredient that makes you drowsy. Chicken and beef have it too, according to a report I heard in the media recently. I guess a lot of us would have to look the ingredient up - trepto-something - in a dietary manual.

U.S. is world player
Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008
Against all odds, Mr. Barack Obama has won the Presidency of the U.S. only to be confronted with extraordinary challenges - incomparably greater than those faced by any recently elected U.S. president. Economically, socially and politically, the country and the world are in a state of deep crisis.

Obama's win has new pride, hope
Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008
The thought of equality and acceptance runs deep within me.Growing up in the suburbs of Monterey, I was numb to the fact that I was different from all of those around me. My mom taught me how to adapt and overcome prejudice and excel in the face of adversity. I took that mantra with me throughout my whole life whether I was serving in the U.S. Navy, going to college or in the work force.

A lament for a bit more consistency
Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008
I must share how frustrated I am because of inconsistency in the products we purchase these days. I was going to say I am not referring to the quality of the products, but in fact it is a matter of quality. Let me share two such examples today, clothes and lumber. Full story »
Anderson, a city that is a cut above
Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008
I remember Anderson when there were no signal lights and it was a mere speck on the map.
But in recent years, Anderson has continued to maintain that small-town atmosphere but with an appetite for growth. Full story »

Oz was brilliant, thanks thespians
Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008
Brains. Heart. Courage. A sense of home.
The joint production of Lyman Frank Baum's "The Wizard of Oz," pulled off so brilliantly by Anderson and West Valley high schools with the assistance of more than a few Munchkins from Anderson Middle School and surrounding elementary schools, had it all. Full story »

My little darlings
Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008
It was a surprise when the phone rang the other day and a voice asked to buy another Toy Fox Terrier puppy.
