Brandon Morganstern catches some needed rest with his market hog during slack time at the Shasta District Fair.

Both are students at West Valley High School and are active members of the FFA (Future Farmers of America).

In the Showmanship Class, Shorr asked contestants to switch animals with another student, then then asked them what they change about the animal that they were handling. Daniels won third place in the Showmanship Class and his steer was designated the fair's Junior Livestock Reserve FFA Champion Market Steer.

  • Grand Champion Market Hog – Raised and sold by Chase Bunn of Millville 4-H. Hog weighed 281 pounds and the bidder was Al Schufelberger for Redding Roofing Supply at $21 per pound.
  • Reserve Grand Champion Market Hog – Raised and sold by Travis Buick of the Swede Creek 4-H. Pig weighed 257 pounds and the bidder was Go Away Ranch at $10.25 per pound.
  • Grand Champion Market Lamb – Raised and sold by Samantha Lloyd of Black Butte 4-H. Lamb weighed 149 pounds and the bidder was Redding Roofing Supply at $22 per pound.
  • Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb/FFA Champion Market Lamb – Raised and sold by Maria Freitas of West Valley FFA. Lamb weighed 130 pounds and the bidder was the McConnell Foundation at $12.50 per pound.
  • Grand Champion Market Steer/FFA Showmanship Champion – Raised and sold by Owen Macfarlane of West Valley FFA. Steer weighed 1,282 pounds and the bidder was Shasta Livestock at $4 per pound.
  • Reserve Grand Champion Market Steer – Raised and sold by Jaxon Fitzgerald of Millville 4-H. Steer weighed 1,318 pounds and the bidder was Go Away Ranch at $5 per pound.
