Anderson Explodes!

ANTHEM WINNER -- Connie Blanc congratulates her daughter Courtney, 9, on winning the national anthem contest for Anderson Explodes!   • REPRESENTING ANDERSON -- Anna Vietti, a 1999 graduate of Anderson Union High School, was the lone contestant from her hometown during the annual Anderson Explodes! national anthem singing contest, which culminated Friday, May 29.
  • GOING SOLO -- Mike Vasquez of Redding competed for the second time at Anderson Explodes! He won last year's Shasta Idol contest and sang the national anthem on opening night of the 2009 Redding Rodeo.
  • DAUGHTER AND MOM DUO -- Shelby Hepburn and her mother, Tasha Hepburn, both of Redding, sang the national anthem as a duet during the Anderson Explodes! contest to determine who would sing at Anderson's July 3 fireworks show.
  • ANTHEM JUDGES -- From left, Mike Powell of Palo Cedro and Kim Norden, Trish Spinner and Hal Davis, all of Redding, joined with Nancy Dutton, not pictured, of Anderson to judge the performances of five finalists during the Anderson Explodes! national anthem contest held Friday, May 29, at Fusaro Hall on the Shasta District Fair grounds in Anderson.

The over-sized check was presented by Pat Wellman (right) on behalf of Anderson Explodes!, a fundraising committee of the Anderson Chamber of Commerce that each year sponsors the July 3 fireworks at the Shasta District Fair grounds.
