Written on Bookings: Jan. 16-22, 2012:

Benjamin Thomas Mayr, 26, of Cottonwood was booked by the United States Postal Service for failure to appear for a work release program and a violation of probation.

Booked by the United States Postal Service??? That's a new one!

Written on Amlin, 73, loses battle with cancer:

R.I.P. Lyle. It was a pleasure working at the ACCA garden with you in it's beginning. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. May you find comfort in God and each other.

Written on Cascade looks at options, mulls Verde Vale closure:

The recommendation of closing Verde Vale includes sending 5th graders to AMS. Why not send them to (or leave them at) Anderson Heights with the 3rd and 4th grade? And what about students that need a challenge in only a couple of their subjects but are no longer able to go to another classroom because that grade is at another school? How will their educational needs be met?

Written on HOOFING IT:

in response to nwconservative:

"International" Walk to School Day? Why "international"? And why are we encouraging the risking of our children's safety by encouraging this? We haven't lived in a world where it is safe for kids to walk to school for a long time. This "international" movement, is not loving our kids.

The kids from Anderson Middle School were safe. They were escorted from the fair grounds to the school by parents, district staff and community members. The walk totalled about 6 blocks.

Written on Fire contained on Ferry Street:

New fire station... huh?

Written on Office relocates; Valley Post maintains emphasis on local news :

I understand the reasoning for the move, but now we've got one more empty "storefront" in Anderson. :o(

Written on Benson case dismissed:

???

Written on School moves:

Nice. I'm glad another empty "storefront" will be once again occupied.

Written on Cascade superintendent resigns:

$450 per day?! Ridiculous! In the time of school budget cuts, I don't see how we can afford that... even for "only" 15 days ($6750)!! I pray that's a typo!

Written on PG&E to sponsor "cool" days in Cottonwood:

in response to LoveFarNorCal:

Strange. Not even going to be triple digits :-/

Very cool (pardon the pun haha) that they are doing this though.

I second your motion for a power outage tonight for meteor shower viewing haha. Now who do we talk to in order to get the moon to tone it down tonight?

Maybe we'll get lucky and it'll set early. Best viewing... 3 a.m.

Written on PG&E to sponsor "cool" days in Cottonwood:

Are we expecting an extreme heat wave this weekend? I'd prefer the lights to go out Saturday night so I can see the meteor shower from my own backyard.

Written on Planners ban marijuana collectives:

in response to just_an_observer:

Empty buildings all over the City of Anderson, gas stations closed down and fenced off in Downtown Anderson. The puppet planning commission with their marching orders from City Council strike another blow to Anderson Business community. By voting to Ban Collectives the planning commission has set the stage for a regression to black market street dealings in Anderson.
Appearantly they believe that a city law will eliminate cannabis from Anderson.

Push cannabis patients to Redding along with their revenue. I would like to know how much sales tax the City of Anderson is throwing away with this decision? A thriving business in the city is scheduled to be closed down by City Officials Why? Cannabis. Suzi Baugh says out of 100 people she asked only 2 supported a collective in Anderson. How many of those 100 were cannabis patients? What does the Planning Commission or City Council know about medicinal cannabis?
It's very clear, cannabis patients have absolutely "NO RIGHTS" in the City of Anderson. The City Council makes it impossible to grow medical grade cannabis, then removes the only collective. I hope none of the Council or their famlies get cancer, have to go through Chemo or radiation therapy. Instead of educating themseles; they bury their heads in the sand and make laws that show, 40+ years of scientific empirical evidence of the efficacy of this plant are ignored.

Well said.

Written on Program helps kids ‘Look Cool for School’:

I wish I had know about this, we could use help like that with our 2 boys.

Written on Pacheco to fight over Knighton plans:

"Meyer also pointed out that there aren’t any guarantees any local contractors will be put to work on the project either."

There are also no guarantees those buildings will fill up. How many storefronts currently sit empty in Anderson alone? Too many. Not to mention "newly" built office space that sits empty. More retail space is not what we need.

Written on Ruci is Albanian exchange student:

Very nice article Austin!

Written on Anderson Council strengthens marijuana ordinance:

Seriously? No comments on this? OK, so... 50 square feet is smaller than my teeny tiny bathroom (5'x10'=50 square feet), are they saying it can NOT be larger or ?? The shed in my backyard would be way too big if that's the case.

Written on 8th grade girl keeps calm, rescues others:

Good job Kayla! My condolences to the boy and his family. You have all been in my thoughts and prayers.

Written on CUESD having food drive in front of Teen Center:

The flyer that came home from school didn't mention a collection in front of the Teen Center today. It only mentions a collection at Safeway in Anderson on Saturday, 10/23 from 9 am until noon (plus collections at the schools - Anderson Heights, Meadow Lane, Verde Valle and Anderson Middle School).

Written on Teen center in Anderson vandalized with gang-type graffiti:

GANGS ARE NOT WELCOME HERE!

Written on Neighbors claim alley unsafe:

"I think the school district will work with us to alter the bus routes to make sure all of the children can get to school safely," Vice Mayor Melissa Hunt said.

Are you kidding me?! They live THAT close to the school and she thinks the school district would be willing to alter bus routes?! Parents/Caregivers can walk their kids around the corner to the front of the school if the alley is closed. I think it's ridiculous that kids in MY neighborhood are bused to Meadow Lane. We're only about 1/2 mile from the school.

At that juncture, Councilman Keith Webster said, "I'd like to remind everyone that it is the parents' responsibility to get the children to school safely."

Thank you Councilman Webster for putting it back into perspective!
