Thanks COA for spending our money on unnecessary legal fees. You'll be losing this one as it goes directly against several tenets of 215.
A-Town being run by A-Holes who think they can circumvent the law.
http://blog.2ndperspective.com/2010/1...----My take:
"All Datura plants contain tropane alkaloids such as scopolamine, hyoscyamine, and atropine, primarily in their seeds and flowers. Because of the presence of these substances, Datura has been used for centuries in some cultures as a poison and hallucinogen. There can be a 5:1 toxin variation across plants, and a given plant's toxicity depends on its age, where it is growing, and the local weather conditions. This variation makes Datura exceptionally hazardous as a drug."source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datura--"Oleander is one of the most poisonous plants in the world and contains numerous toxic compounds, many of which are deadly to people, especially young children. (Despite this fact, it is often grown in school yards.) The toxicity of oleander is considered extremely high, and it has been reported that in some cases only a small amount had lethal or near-lethal effects. The most significant of these toxins are oleandrin and neriine, which are cardiac glycosides. They are present in all parts of the plant, but are most concentrated in the sap, which can block out receptors. High risk circumstances of exposure include children playing with the ornamental shrub, as well as adults or children tasting, chewing, ingesting portions of the plant, and inappropriate medicinal use of plant infusion."source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nerium_o...--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Datura and Oleander are completely legal and thrive heartily in and around Anderson. The Anderson River Park is crawling with Datura and various government entities have planted Oleander as wind blockage and decoration for quite some time.
The Anderson City Counsel needs to get their heads out of the politics and start educating themselves on the nature of the plant before they have the wisdom to make a suggestion on how to vote on Proposition 19.----Or how to restrict 215.
Why is the first commenter here such a creep?
Someone has a bitter heart.
Congrats Debe!
"I mourn California's demise!"
Will you finally leave when it's dead?
You seem to be doing a fine job of fluffing them on your own.
'"This is the first year in all my time in Anderson where I feel unsafe in my own neighborhood," Mrs. Hawkins said. "With Halloween coming up, I usually give out a bit of candy to all the children who come by the house wearing a costume. But with this kind of thing going on this years, I don't want my grand-kids going out in this neighborhood. This is not how I want to live out my retirement years," she added.'
Sounds like an excellent reason to decriminalize it. Prop 215 stands regardless of prop 19 passing. If 19 doesn't pass this type of criminal activity will continue just as it did with alcohol prohibition. If everyone can grow their own there is no reason to steal someone elses.
Your choice... 'Yes' to change things, 'No' to keep them the same.

"Liberal thinking, regardless of party - Democrat, Republican or Moderate - are destroying our freedoms and our beloved country."
Freedoms being destroyed?!?
What like gay marriage and growing pot?
Both freedoms that the conservative base would rather you not have.
Quit preaching about freedom... you have no idea what it actually means.

in response to KimW: I admit to being a bit confused as to why the City Council is attempting to "sway votes." I was under the naive impression that elected officials are are elected to, um, what's the term again, oh yeah, to "represent" those who elected them. Hence, I assume, the term "representative democracy." I do not recall being queried by any member of this *elected* City Council as to my opinion on the matter of Proposition 19, and I certainly have not heard of any data concerning any findings as to precisely where the majority of Anderson *voters* stands on this issue. It would seem that carefully selected information provided by police chief Dale Webb will be the driving force of an attempt by the City Council, using the words of the article, to "sway voters," when in fact, those elected to the City Council were presumably elected by voters, and entrusted by them, to represent, in a legal and constitutional manner, the wishes of those voters. I most certainly did *not* vote for anyone on this City Council in hopes that they would represent solely police chief Dale Webb and his opinions on this matter. A cynical person might wish to ask both the City Council and the police chief in what way the *present* cannabis laws, based in large measure, upon federal laws, represent a more reasonable way to deal with cannabis in our society, since, when cannabis use and distribution was defined as "criminal activity" some seventy years ago - a savage empire of illegal drug cartels did *not* control that activity, very few societal problems due to cannabis were reliably noted, and a vast and costly branch of law enforcement was *not* maintained at enormous taxpayer expense to enforce those not yet existing laws. Yes, this proposition is flawed in many ways, and it is certainly correct to bring them up and to discuss them. Laws, however, can be modified and tinkered with as needed as problems become apparent. Proposition 19 could even be repealed, if necessary, by yet another proposition. Let the voters decide this one for once - not law enforcement, whose own interests, after all, are quite involved and invested in maintaining the status quo. And to the City Council, whatever the opinion of voters may be on this proposition, they will be watching you, and their votes will be based upon how you have represented *them,* and not how well you have represented the opinions of our police chief.

Color me naive as well.
"I have been researching this topic for some time now. It is not as simple as it seems."
Good answer... much better than jumping to conclusions and making judgements about people's personal lives.
"As far as cultivation, I believe it should be cultivated outside city limits."
You sound like someone who can be reasoned with.
Ms. Hopkins... you will receive my vote. (and probably my wife's and daughter's)
"I think it has gotten way out of hand. For $200 cash you can get a recommendation from a doctor."
I'm positive that the reasons an individual obtains a recommendation is between that person and their doctor and too many people (let alone counsel member who hold some level of control over our inner-city lives) speculate and judge on those reasons generating a sense of us versus them.
That is no one elses business, least of all a city counsel member.
"I also do not support growing it in residential areas within city limits. There is no way a homeowner should ever have to put up with the stench of a neighbor's garden. I have been in that situation, can't use my back yard for a barbecue because of the 40 plants next door."
How about the stench of a paper mill for 30+ year. How about the Olianders that my neighbor grows that I am allergic to. How about the damiana that can kill a small child who eats the leaf or touches the seed pod growing widly about this area.
Sounds like more 'tea-baggery' to me... keep the things I don't like away from me.
I won't be voting for Mr. Day.
I think that the graffiti was created by one or more members of the task force!
Those are fellow human beings that you are belittling with your need for abject conformity.
"I have come to a new appreciation for the residents of Anderson and the surrounding area. They have put their shoulder to the wheel and have confirmed that our veterans are worth honoring them as Heroes in our great city."
The fact that you had no 'old appreciation' leaves me cold.
Good for you... glad to see that you have been listening :)
Would it have used too much ink to print the names of those nominated?
"Even gentle dogs react to pack instinct and attack."
People too... just check the RS comments!
Agreed jway!

CerebralAlchemist? You don't even know the difference between "to" and "too."----Humblest apologies, I am a product of the current and defunct education system.
For the number of numb-skulls the system produces, YES they are indeed paid way to much across the board. (I'm including S.F. as well)
It will be nice when we come around to newer ways of learning that will replace the current and massively inefficient 'baby-sitting' dynamic that we have now!
Your writing is evolving nicely. I really appreciate the shift of focus and the spirit of inclusion.
Great article on a Great Person!
We love ya Jeanie!
A bike ride in the rain can be VERY rejuvinating and doesn't use precious fossil fuels.
It's interesting how humans have been able to handle their emotions for ages before the invent of cars.
Personally, I blame 'new math'... not the new 'new math' but that old 'new math' that they tried to sell to our parents. But I digress.
Get relief where you can find it I suppose...
On the positive side... the unnecessary use of fossil fuels will assist global climate change, melting the polar ice caps and making more water available for driving in the rain.
Words hurt. Even the little ones that sometimes aren't intended to insult.
The difficulty of accepting hurtful words and realizing they aren't always true is not an easy thing to do, nor is it fun.
It's simply life.----In time you will realize that you, personally, get to decide how much sting words have to you and at that point your world will expand in ways you've never imagined.
Integrating life within ourselves IS THE WORK... and you'll know when you've finally gotten the hang of it because it will be as easy and fun as you decide to make it!
It was ignored by Anderson High School last year... student were allowed to choose their venue for their dances... drinking and poor decisions ensued.
I thought these were students... make them have their dances AT the school.
Why is this girl not being treated for depression? What kind of personal support group (family and friends) let's this go on unchecked? And who let's that depression spread through a newspaper?
Some people are not looking at the bigger picture here.
Answer: quit eating fast food... this is the universe's way of telling you to stop. Quit complaining and make a sandwich or something healthy to eat.
You get what you pay for and if the service gets better, either the price goes up or the quality of food goes down.
Again... quit griping and eat something healthy... not only is it good for you, it's usually cheaper.
in response to Tammohawk: Or, they are afraid of our district attorney who is now putting together a task force to shut all of these dispensaries down. Methinks he's going to try to use the federal law. Irregardless of the fact that it is legal in this state, passed by a majority of the voters.

San Diego tried that to no avail. I hope the DA figures that out before wasting our money.
in response to David: Why is it the Wheelabrator plant south of Anderson can get away with polluting the skies daily without our county air quality people enforcing their permit conditions. Everytime I drive by a large ball of black smoke pours from their stacks then quits only to do it again minutes later. How do the rest of you feel?

"How do the rest of you feel?"
Slightly nauseated by the smell occasionally.
in response to HeardEnough: Be careful what you comment on. If untrue, you can be sued for defamation. You need to research the first amendment. Is does not protect you against stating untruths, even against a public official. You are not protected by the shield law as you are not a journalist and your identity can be uncovered. just a word of caution.

Actually... it is the paper that would be sued for facilitating the comment... that's IF the comment was deemed part of a publication rather than an open online forum
Any other legitimate business causing a 'gold rush mentality' would be welcomed with open arms (and has been in the past)... why do your personal views continue to interfere with legitimate business?
Federally, nothing can be done to the city for allowing it, locally... it is legal and guidlines have been handed down from our Attorney General.
All I can figure is that you don't want Anderson to benefit from the tax revenue. Why?
Way to put the scripture into real life there, Mr. Bocker.
Want to put forth some real life examples so people can relate the antiquated bible of your sermons to today's word of God?
I really hope the paper didn't pay you for this.
"I know he would have the irrigation dept. put up fences around the canal."
So will just about anyone else after the latest incident.
one word...
overpopulation
"A cautionary note here for individuals using groups. You should be aware that you are inadvertently sharing email addresses to whomever you send a message too as all addressees’ email addresses are listed."
This statement shows that you are lacking in technical knowledge. If you had taken the time to understand the technology rather than hating it as it took over the world you didn't want to see change, you would have a full understanding of your folly and wouldn't hate the technology and incidentally it's users.
Classes are available at the library. If you use a simple blind carbon copy (BCC) user emails will not be exposed.
You're now receiving the money from the home schoolers, now this. Your system is hainously flawed, don't expect my vote.
Dearest Mr. Higgins:
Those of us who are 'Awake' understand and appreciate your position, especially as it indicates the mind set of so many things besides the subject at hand. Here in the north state the movement is still 'undergound' and while there is progress and hope, some are disappointed in the slow speed of the awakenings. Please rest assured in the fact that you are not alone here, we are just in hiding until the anger and hatred passes. Those who are awake will understand the breadth and depth of this post, the 'others' will be angry that there is a gay marriage underground movement, which is best... it will put them off of the trail.
